The delicate beauty of a Cardinal made it an easy choice of subject for this very special graphite drawing. This bird represents so much for so many, and perhaps the most special is the spirit of the ones we’ve lost. Grief is a deeply personal journey, and can only be mourned alone. Many believe the sight of the Cardinal represents the present spirit of someone they’ve lost, watching over them through the lens of this stunning feathered friend.

I decided to create this Cardinal piece not only because it is a stunning local bird, but because of its ties to healing and remembrance.
